Blok nr 5 i blok nr 6
PL
Romom i Sinti przypisano trójkąt w kolorze czarnym, oznaczający tzw. więźniów aspołecznych (Asoziale, Aso), do których zaliczano m.in. włóczęgów, prostytutki, osoby często naruszające porządek publiczny.
Blocks 5 and 6
EN
These blocks present evidence of the crimes committed in KL Auschwitz and about the life of prisoners. This section of the exhibition presents also the situation of Sinti and Roma the prisoners of KL Auschwitz, which will be presented in more detail in the part on the Zigeunerfamilienlager in Birkenau. In room 4 of block 6 one can see a photograph of Roma girls, the victims of Dr. Mengele’s medical experiments. In room 1 of this block one can get to know the system of identification of prisoners by use of colored triangles sewn onto prisoners’ jackets. Roma and Sinti wore black triangles (sometimes with the letter “Z”) which stood for “anti-social prisoners” (Asoziale, Aso) which included, among others, vagabonds, beggars, prostitutes and persons violating the social order. In the Third Reich, Sinti and Roma were declared anti-social because of their alleged racial characteristics.
